Finding cubic yardage
Formula = Length x Width x Depth / 27
• Step 1 - Measure area. Length x Width = square feet of area.
• Step 2 - Determine desired depth. Measurement must be in feet.
To convert from inches to feet, divide the number of inches by 12.
Examples
1" / 12 = 0.083'
2" / 12 = 0.166'
3" / 12 = 0.250'
• Step 3 - Multiply square feet from step 1 x depth from step 2
• Step 4 - Divide result from step 3 by 27 and the new result is your cubic yardage.
Example - Finding the cubic yardage needed to cover an area that is 50' x 60' at a depth of 0.25' (3")
50' x 60' = 3000 square feet x 0.25' = 750 cubic feet
750 divided by 27 = 27.77 cubic yards
